The Power Of Appreciation

When you observe financial well-being in others, especially very lavish well-being, do you sometimes condemn it? If you do so, you are simultaneously condemning your own well-being. The act of condemning may be fostered in a group environment but you should stand aside and not join in.

This does not mean you need to praise those aspects that do not resonate with you, but do not waste your energy on condemning them overall. Instead, turn your attention to the aspects you can resonate with and appreciate, and this will soon attract more well-being into your life.

Notice that if you desire greater abundance while thinking negatively towards those who already have it, you are putting out conflicting intentions — I want more abundance; I hate excessive abundance — which means you cannot and will not progress as long as you hold this jaundiced view. You’ll merely continue to manifest lack, scarcity and negative situations.

Think of someone who enjoys a degree of abundance that bothers you on some level. Perhaps imagine a wealthy business person who is paid what you feel is excessive compensation, even as their company lost money. Imagine the business person spending that money lavishly on fancy cars, expensive vacations, a large house with extensive grounds, staff to carry out all their whims. Newspapers do not help here as once they latch on to such a person they spread their views to constantly influence you. Instead look for a seed of appreciation within that image you see, and expand it.

Do you find it difficult to appreciate and relate to someone in this situation? If so, then approach it from a totally different perspective. Imagine someone who lives on less than one dollar per day and who does not have access to clean water and safe reliable food is doing this same exercise, and has selected you as their example of lavish living. Your lifestyle will seem incredibly abundant to them, far beyond anything they have known during their life and is seemingly unattainable for them. It is all relative. Would you expect them to judge you critically for having what they do not have? Would you have them condemn you as heartless and greedy? How would you like them to feel about you?

Now return to the original exercise. Place yourself in the place of the business person. To you this lifestyle feels normal, not lavish or excessive. As you see it, so many others are living a life of lack and scarcity. You know in your heart that you can’t help them by joining them in lack. You can be generous with them of course, and you do so to the degree it feels good, but you do not want to give so much that would disempower them, do you? There is a fine limit here. Instead you would rather inspire others to create their own happiness, assisting them where you can but being careful not to rob them of their own creative power. You can give a man a fish but you will give them much more if you teach them to fish for themselves.

People do not want to see you in lack, but they cannot rob you of your power either, that is something you must learn to develop. Do not fight against the abundance you desire and crave, especially when you see someone else with abundance. Instead, think of relating to this successful abundant person as you would want someone in greater scarcity to relate to you, as an example of hope and potential, not a perfect or flawless example, but an example nonetheless.
